Glenelg

Glenelg is an attractive seaside suburb with many historic buildings. This is where the first settlers came ashore to found the colony in 1836. The tree under which the settlement was proclaimed still stands in a quiet street. - Photo courtesy: geocities

George Town


George Town is about 50km N Launceston at the mouth of the Tamar River. First settled in 1811, has historic buildings, maritime museum lighthouse. Important commercial center and extensive fruit-growing area. Strawberries farm at Hillwood, south of the town, where visitors can pick their own fruit in season. Ruins of Lefroy, a 19th century gold-mining town nearby.
